Dressing shouldn't be another symptom to manage.
FlareUp Apparel started as a shopping list — the kind you build after one too many afternoons undone by a sunny errand, or one too many shirts returned because the seams were unbearable on a flare day.
This site is the easy-to-follow guide and shopping list I wish someone had handed me on day one. If you're newly diagnosed, or just newly tired of guessing, I hope it saves you some of that trial and error. Start with the Sun & Skin Guide if you're not sure where to begin.
What we do
We research and curate clothing and accessories specifically through the lens of autoimmune skin and sun sensitivity: verified UPF ratings, flat-seam and tagless construction, breathable natural fibers, and adaptive details for low-energy days.
We're not a hospital, a clinic, or a substitute for your care team. Think of FlareUp Apparel as the resource we wished existed when we started looking — a second opinion on "will this actually work," written in plain language.
Why purple
Purple is the official awareness color for lupus. It felt right to build our brand around it rather than around it as an afterthought.
What we believe
-
Specifics over marketing. A real UPF number and fabric name, every time — not just "sun protective."
-
Comfort is not optional. If it isn't wearable on a flare day, it doesn't make the list.
-
Education, not diagnosis. We point you toward good questions for your care team — never around them.
-
Built by and for this community. Every category exists because someone described a specific, real frustration.
Have a product we should feature?
If you've found sun-protective or seam-free clothing that's genuinely worked for you, we'd love to hear about it.
